ℹ️ Short answer: Stay in District V (Belváros-Lipótváros) for a first visit: it’s walkable, central and on three metro lines, but it’s the priciest. Choose District VI (around Andrássy út) for a calmer, elegant base, District VII for food and nightlife (pick a quiet street), or the Palace District in VIII for value. The Castle District (I) is for quiet and views. Stay in Pest, not Buda, unless quiet matters more than convenience. Where to stay in Budapest is mostly a question of noise and walking distance. The city’s best areas sit within a few kilometres of each other, on either side of the Danube. The difference between a great base and a tiring one is often a single street: the same District VII block can be a charming courtyard hotel or a room directly above a club that closes at dawn.
